People who grew up with strict parents: what was their most unreasonable rule?

My parents were clothing Nazis

They refused to buy any clothes from any store anywhere, ever. Everything we had was passed down from generations... GENERATIONS. This meant that up until I was 14 (my siblings and I moved in with my neighbors when I was that age) I wore clothes from the late 1800s to early 1900s, which of course lead to merciless harrassment at school by almost everyone other than my own siblings. Asking to go out to get some new clothes would result in the buckle (as in belt) and would leave some nice scars to be covered up by our ancient clothing. I'll always remember the time my older brother borrowed a friend's shorts for gym but forgot to return them and accidentally brought them home. The fury in my father's eyes was comparable to that of Hell. To deal with this abomination, my father measured out the length of the devil shorts and then traced a circle around each of my brother's legs to mark it. The buckle then came into play as my father went from the line down leaving gashes with each hit. The purpose was to keep my brother from ever wearing those shorts again, even though my father burned them in a pit in the yard. My brother still has very prominent scars today but is constantly wearing shorts that he bought at a STORE to pretty much shove the middle finger up dear old Dad's ass.

Currently, I haven't spoken to my parents in about 13 years and I don't plan on changing that any time soon.
