People who ran away from cops and was successful, what was your story?

Oh, I have a fun one.

We were driving in university vans coming back from a tournament.

There were two identical vans with the school's marking on them and everything.

The teams drive themselves but our coach also had his car. We all kind of stick together, but not like in a caravan by any means.

Anywho, we get a call about stopping for dinner at a restaurant coming up. But we were ahead of our coach on the highway, and had just passed the restaurant as we got the call.

I relay the info to the person driving (a college student) and he's like, "Well, I guess we are pulling a u-turn!".

And he does. We had just come off an over-pass bridge thing, so we turned around and went back up over the bridge.

In the right lane, only about 20 car lengths ahead, was a state trooper.

I say, "Oh fuck dude, there's a cop right there!"

The driver says, "Welp, if we are getting a ticker either way, we might as well gun it to the restaurant."

This crazy mofo, with a van filled with 9 people guns it over the bridge, (where the cop loses sight of us), into the parking lot, and parks right next to the other school van.

We pile out and are running inside the restaurant by the time the cop, with his lights on comes over the bridge.

We are inside the restaurant and tell our other teammates/coach what happened.

The cop comes in, we are clearly the people from the vans so he approaches the area we are all seated, and says, "Alright, that was cute, but come on you guys pulled an illegal U-turn. I won't ticket you for speeding or avoiding me if you just tell me who was driving."

We look around at each other, nobody says a word.

My coach stands up and asks what happened. The cop explains that he saw one of the vans pull an illegal u-turn and that he's offering to only write the one ticket and ignore the other stuff that happened.

Our coach asks, "Did you catch it on a dash cam so you can check the license plate?" The cop says, "No, i saw it in my mirror."

And our coach says, "So you don't even know which van pulled the U-turn?"

and the cop says, "Yea."

And my coach says, "Do you want me to figure it out for you?"

And the cop says, "Yea, I'll give them a break and not ticket them for evading me and speeding."

And my coach says, "Well, its sounds to me like you don't have anyone to write a ticket to, but if you do find out which van pulled the U-turn, you can call me and I'll see if we can sort this out."

He then hands the cop his business card. The cop looks at it, looks at my coach, looks at us, and says "Fair enough, but you know who you are. Don't think you'll get this lucky next time. Have a safe drive back to (City where school is located.)

And that is how my undergrad mock trial team got away with evading the police... Our coach chewed us the fuck out and banned that student from driving ever again. But goddamn, that is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. We all respected our coach so much, and he was so pissed that he had to pull the, "I'm a lawyer" card when telling the cop he isn't going to ticket us because he doesn't know who was driving/which van it was.
