Performance review tomorrow, looking for a raise, found out assistant is on more money than me

You need to look at it from the managers perspective, i.e

  • arguments based around what others earn aren't necessarily going to have merit, and can reflect badly on you depending on their personality
  • arguments based on what value you've brought, money you've saved, things you've improved or done better have much more weight.
  • arguments based on 'i'm leaving due to an offer of X somewhere else' can work, if and only if there is budget, and your boss sees the value in your position. If they know they can replace you for less and your work isn't that rare or unique, it doesn't work so well.

see https://www.wikihow.com/Ask-For-a-Pay-Raise for more tips.

but ultimately, the best way to get a pay rise is always to change employer.
