Honestly. I think a lot of religious people can't leave because admitting you are wrong is hard

Yeah probably right about the off putting thing but that's their issue (and fault) not ours. Just like how if they met a40 y/o who honestly believes in Santa (name anything mythological or magical, centaurs for all i care it's all the same shit) and is constantly bringing up his/her obvious nonsensical beliefs, it's not their fault if he's put off, and they're not wrong to try to snap him out of the delusion.

Meeting someone like that might actually help them realize why atheists find it hard to just move past that shit and talk about the weather or something, tho. On second thought shit. ..

Time to flip the script. Don't even admit to being an atheist. Just pretend to earnestly believe in Santa or something, then, when they're done actually thinking logically about and criticizing your magical claims, ask about their god and repeat back to them word for word everything they said about Santa.

(Maybe something slightly more 'plausible' than Santa though. That's like saying you're pastafarian... Go too obviously ridiculous with it and they'll never bite)
