Eh it depends on how the person carries themselves.

My first experience with pirating was very unpleasant. I was really new to the game and just bought an asp after some intense grinding and had just about enough left over to rebuy (but not for my cargo bay full of valuables). I told them all of this.

They asked for a large chunk of my cargo, didn't really explain anything and just killed me when I tried to run. I realized I wouldn't be able to make it and killed my engines to comply, but instead he said something along the lines of "die fucktard" and killed me.

That crushed me a bit and made me pretty mad, but I wasn't gonna drop into Solo and so I rebought my asp (this set me to about 3000 credits) and headed to a system where gold could be bought for decent price.

This time they just interdicted me and damn near killed me.

I had to drop all of my cargo and run and just about made it to the station with a broken canopy, an asp at 30% hull and no money.

Since then most pirates I've run into are decent and fun to interact with, but that one's not a fond memory.
