My girlfriend plays on a fantasy league every year. This year some people in her league unexpectedly dropped out right before the draft, so she asked me to draft a team of my own to help flesh it out. Sure. Why not? I know next to nothing about baseball and even less about the current players, but I wanted to go in with a strategy--any strategy.

I don't know if all drafts are like this, but this one is set up like a live auction where you have $25 total to spend on all of your players. I printed out a list of top starting and relief pitchers from Yahoo. Figured I'd spend the minimum on all of my batters, so that I could outbid everyone else on all the top pitchers. This was super easy because I know jack shit about batters, and I didn't print out that list anyway. So I chose batters whose names that I liked, bid the minimum, and only won them if no one else outbid me.

Ended up with a roster full of elite pitchers and cheap batters with fabulous names. This means that I am the proud rookie manager of one Nomar Mazara. Feels good man.
