I have a long career in software. I learned in the 70s as a kid. It is likely that I've spent more time coding that almost everybody on Reddit. This is not a flex, it's just a result of doing it full time for 30 years. I'm not a wizard, I rate myself 7-8 out of 10 in ability. I interview well and I know how to get hired and negotiate compensation. I can give pretty decent advice on how to build soft skills and avoid pitalls in perceived value.

But I don't live in California, I don't work for FAANG, I haven't been a new college grad scrapping for a job since 1989. I can repeat what younger coworkers tell me, but I don't know it first hand.
