Police Shoot Protester Wearing Anonymous Mask, ‘Hacktivist’ Group Vows to ‘Avenge’ His Death

I'm sensing a strong disconnect from reality here. Why would you rather have a police department without guns than without tasers?

I am not saying remove guns all together. It's the argument of money that came into question. The cost of a dead person at the hands of police is more than the training of a taser. In this situation the optimal result would have came from a taser. He is in effective range and he would have survived.

The officers did use that fancy voice thing you think is all powerful, and it didn't work. Hence the "refusal to drop the weapon". I don't think they just stared silently at the guy then were like, Fuck it, shoot him.

Yeah saying drop the weapon 500 times is not useful. People have reasoning and logic. If you rationalize with the guy then they have a much higher chance of complying. the police here do not get enough training and its getting worse which is also why we are seeing a rise in police brutality in Canada.

Also, do you have any idea how difficult it is to shoot an arm or a leg of a person moving? And have that shot actually disable them? Would you gamble your life on it? Officer's are trained to shoot the chest, it's the largest target.

that is the way that it is trained in the US. I know in Ottawa the RCMP are a mixed bag. I have spoken to a few that shoot to kill aiming for chest. But I have also spoken to a few who not use there fire arms as a maiming device. One of them even said "What good are people for information when they are dead?" Again this is due to poor training and resources.

the end result here is just proof that the changes to the CCJS are dumb. There is less money allocated to training and equipment and it's causing more and more problems. Take a look at Europe policing vs North American policing. Europe puts more money into training and that can also be seen in the overall higher tax rates.

This man that had a knife could have been alive today. The chances that he was mentally not all there or was suffering some sort of trauma are pretty high. I don't think he woke up and said "let's go stab police". For that reason I don't think he is evil or deserved to die. He needed help and the help Canada gave him was taking his life......
