Is it possible to permanently alter your brain chemistry?

I personally ruined my life with 10 years of benzo abuse along with 10 months of Phenibut/stim use. This turned into some kind a anhedonia(sp?), which lasted for months. I tapered down and have experienced the same since quitting 10 months ago.

I feel better as far as the mental aspect goes and can feel joy, socialize, ect, but I do experience constant mood swings. During this time I have made some great strides career wise and in my personal life, as well as moved to a small town close to the water to destress. It has helped immensely with the mental sides.

Unfortunately, the physical side effects persist. I now have permanent rigid muscles, primarily in my legs and pelvic area, a tight chest, strange heart palpitations, random loss of sensations throughout my body, no libido to speak of, as well as the inibility to get a proper erection combined with loss of sensation downstairs. My sense of smell has also seemed to take a hit. I tend feel as if I have to manually breath at times. Many of these symptoms mimic PFS and PSSD, though I have not taken either. I did take Wellbutrin for a few month which completely reversed my symptoms for a week until it inevitably made them worse. I've also tried various supplements and nootropics to no avail.

Ive had anxiety and RLS my whole life, but now the anxiety has dissipated to a degree and instead of having RLS my legs are permanently locked up, especially when trying to relax or sleep. This alone has cause immense depression and stress, but im currently working with some specialists to see what damage can be reversed. This has completely ruined my life, but it was my own fault. Hoping things will turn around in the next few years but I've accepted the consequences to my decision. If I could go back I would have never messed with any supplement or drug.
