Pranked by my boyfriend

I've (20 years old) got this leather couple bracelet which my boyfriend (21 years old) bought for me not long after we started dating a year ago. It's really important to me because it's like having something to remind me of him when he is thousands of miles away (long distance relationships). When I don't wear it, it is kept in my shoulder bag. Recently, we went on a trip with our friends and I decided to leave the bracelet in my bag for the whole trip so that I won't lose it, or so I thought. Less than a week after a trip, my boyfriend asked me "still wearing the bracelet I bought for you? <3" I replied yes and he requested for a picture of the bracelet. That was when I started digging through the bag and panicked when I couldn't find it. I told him about it and 30 minutes into the search he asked me whether it's really missing inserts surprised face. I told him not to worry as I continue searching my whole house for the bracelet. I even got my housekeeper and siblings to help me. After an hour or so, I started to suspect that he might have my bracelet since he asked me such a random question. I don't believe my boyfriend is someone who would prank me over something this important but I called him to ask. He insisted he didn't have it and continued denying until I cried. Turns out the bracelet was with him and he found it in his car boot after the trip. Why would he do such a thing?! He knows how much I treasure the bracelet. Is this a normal ? It seems weird to me that he wants me to panic over the loss of something important.
