Prying Parents of Reddit, what secret of your child did you discover that made you wish you hadn't?

Both are 100% wrong.

Yes of course, but the truth lies somewhere in between. I'm not suggesting that one theory is true because of another worse theory, I'm saying that one extreme is closer to the truth than another.

We are talking about media influencing us. The underlying principles are the same.

Of course - I just mean that advertisement merely encourages people to buy shit, it's not really the same sort of behavioral reinforcement that violent media is.

Yes, they are.

You might have misread me there. I said that people being influenced by media in general doesn't indicate that violent media increases violence, not that violent media doesn't increase violence.

You're acting like I'm disagreeing with you, but I'm not really. I was initially just saying that compared to the extreme of violent media causing people to be psycho murderers, the extreme of violent media having no effect isn't nearly as extreme of a thought. They're both extremes, but one's less extreme. Probably not the most coherent thought. Whatever.

No, that's really not what you were saying

I'm saying that kids should be educated about porn so they don't expect it to be representative of real sex. Is that not what you're saying? I didn't specifically say that context should be given before the fact, but I had that thought earlier and I agree.

And this discussion has nothing to do with censorship.

It kinda does - we're talking about whether certain people should be able to view certain things.
