Quick question

Out of high school I joined the armed forces, after that I came home and needed a job. I knew a friend who did electrical work on commercial buildings. He hooked me up with a job. When I say I knew NOTHING about electrical work, I mean exactly that. I was as green as green gets.

Fast forward about 5 years, I am now a project engineer with that same company working on a $90 million hospital (approx. $10 million electrical cost). I went to school for construction management and worked at the same time as an electrician’s apprentice.

The combination of field experience on a variety of projects, my college education, and showing I was hungry to move up got me a great job in the long run. It started out as just a job and turned into a career that I really enjoy.

If I were to tell you anything, it would be to invest in your education (be it college, trade school, or apprenticeship, certs). If you show you’re moving forward in life and that you are hungry, there’s a company out there who wants you.
