A rant about CTH's place in media & activism (aka get off my lawn bro kids)

i've been thinkin about it and there is no shortage of shit about the GOP's shit. It's what everyone is doing and one of the central points of the show is that it's tough to do comedy about something that's already just satirical. It's like that Lewis Black bit where he wakes up every morning now and just thinks how the fuck is he gonna do his fuckin job when reality is doing it for him. And the difficult thing about dunking on Republicans is that it's a feedback loop of the same pathological instincts. They're uniformly dumb and culture warrior shit, but if you do it too many times you can sound like a broken record.

I like that they explicitly avoid that angle and come at it from different way with writers who look at issues from a longer term perspective. Because a lot of comedy can be sussed out of speculation. I don't think the daily show shit sticks because the show isn't trying to run a satire of the news. It's explicitly a comedy podcast with an ideological bent and it's not looking for a framing device to make a satire of.

The takes are always good and the hosts are educated, and I would dispute them not being very radical, but there's a whole network lots left podcasts and shows looking at the day to day dirty issues of GOP policy and the hellworld shit like the Michael Brooks show, The Majority Report and Kyle Kulinski. Chapo is twice a week and daily through their twitter feeds and through weird twitter. CTH is just always going have to tackle issues and show topics from different angles based on the show format.

at the end of the day, it may be frustrating, but the dry boys have been more than honest and forthright about the show being a comedy podcast and they've addressed the meta shit more times than one. The thing that the show allows you to do is follow these people on twitter which leads to more shit and that leads to more shit. It's not the end, but if you do it right, it would be a good entry point.

But if people just want to be fans of the show, dunk on shit and be casual listeners im not going to fault them for doing that. its probably why im never a fan of these struggle sessions that come in and talk about chapo not being the real left
