Reddit, what's your high schools tragedy? [NSFW]

3 guys who everyone knew were involved in a murder. They were druggees, two of them were notorious from being high as balls every day in class, but they were all really cool guys and everyone at least was on friendly terms with them.

Senior year, about a week before Halloween, they needed some more drugs, and they knew a guy who graduated a few years earlier. He wouldn't sell them any, so they plotted a burglary. They brought a gun. I don't know exact details, but the guy woke up and they shot him. The guy had a kid and was going to get married.

All 3 of them were arrested. The school took it hard. The one who pulled the trigger was sentenced to 17 years. The other two got around 10 I believe for breaking & entering and being accessories.

The school took it very hard. People were crying in the halls and in our government class, the teacher cancelled his lesson plans for his senior classes and just talked to anyone about it who wanted to. He gave us all of the notes for the day and just became a helping ear for everybody. A good chunk of us knew the man who was killed, but everyone knew the 3 guys who did it.

According to my friend who was very close with the one who got sentenced to 17 years, he didn't know what he was doing and they were drunk/high when they broke in. This was during visitation before the trial and sentencing.

When they were sentenced, everyone was crying. I wasn't too close to the 3 perps but I was close with everyone who was affected, and I was a big shoulder for people to cry on. Definitely one of those things that gets to you after a while, seeing so much despair and grief, not only for the one who died, but his killers as well.
