False; Spain was an empire that lost power through a series of wars with England, France, and the Netherlands - also weak rulers and loss of territories. Spain's ~400 year empire came to a bitter end. They're not confused with Mexico... unless of course we're talking about the confusion of High School kids that never took a European History class.

Mexico hasn't offered anything of value, architecturally or in relation to innovation since the Maya and Inca natives, even then, they were sacrificing babies and cutting out people's hearts - which ironically made them easier to conquer because the natives there were used to being ruled over and tricked by dictators that knew when eclipses would come; so this gave their native rulers greater power over them, I.E. "do what we say or the gods will turn the sun black" - unless we are talking about the taco, that's an excellent invention.

Spain is also ranked #13 in the world now, they're still powerful in comparison to the impoverished condition in Mexico.
