S9E01 Oh. My. Gaga! [Post-Episode Discussion]

A little late, but: -General Thoughts: Obviously, this episode revolved around Gaga, which I understand, but I think it made an impact on my first episode impression of the queens. I'm excited for things to really get started next episode! -Aja: Very quiet this episode, but I think she'll be around awhile. I loved her Gaga look and how unexpected it was. -Alexis: When I saw the previews, I was underwhelmed by her Gaga look, but after seeing it I think it worked really well. Her New York look was a little...idk, try hard? I'm a huge believer in every message she tried to convey, but think it would have been more effective had she committed to one cause. -Charlie: Also very quiet. Her value came in Untucked when she reached out to Jaymes. I hope she's our mother hen this season. -Eureka: This queen knows exactly who she is, which I love, but she can come across a bit abrasive. It really bothered me in Untucked that she had more interest in discussing the non-existent bottom three instead of the top three, which gave a potential positive moment a negative tone. Tbh, I'd bet money we'll see a Trinity-Eureka LSFYL this season, and I'd bet just as much that Eureka will win it for ~storyline~. Farrah: Honestly, I expected to hate Farrah. I've never been a fan of a queen whose biggest asset is being pretty. But she's a total sweetheart! I do wish she'd done her reveal, but in the long run I think showing a little self-doubt will keep her from the dangers of obnoxious confidence. Jaymes: Poor Jaymes :( She seems so sweet, but I agree she really needs to work on shedding that character. Kimora: I don't see her lasting long. She's great at what she does, but don't see enough versatility to thrive. Nina: Clock the flair, I adore Nina. Despite self-doubt, she's managed to remain unabashedly herself, and I think the judges will really embrace it. There are two things we need to see first: Will Nina excel in the performing challenges (I think she will tbh, Nina doesn't take herself too seriously and is self-aware enough to pull it off)? And, god forbid, the second a self-pitying excuse leaves her mouth, it's over (like a Robbie or TKB excuse). Peppermint: Very active in confessionals, which leads me to believe she'll be around awhile. Her drag, however, fell victim to the Gaga-centric structure. Sasha Velour: I'm very conflicted about Sasha. I LOVED her Gaga look, but really didn't care for her New York look. I agree with the judges that it was simply too busy for its own good. There's also the fear that Sasha will come off as pretentious, the whole ~I'm an ARTIST~ type. I'm a writer, and know a lot of these people, and 9/10 their writing is trite, overwrought, and not very good. I'm keeping an open mind. Shea Coulee: Gun to my head, there are two queens I could realistically see winning S9--Nina and Shea. Shea has a certain something about her, and I think she'll be a lot of fun to watch. Trinity: I need to see her character development in the next few episodes before I can get a grip on who Trinity is. No matter what, we'll always have 'astigmatism.' Valentina: I was skeptical from the first twenty minutes, but I like Valentina a lot. I think she could benefit from a little self-awareness (not everything needs to be a big announcement, "May I have the floor???").
