The thought has occurred to me before that spreading nukes all over the planet is our form of insurance policy against them. They may or may not be interested in us but if they are here at all then they are certainly interested in Earth or something on it. Maybe we've been holding it hostage. If I as an individual had a sense that I was being monitored and possibly controlled in some way I would tank the plot and wait for an intervention that I could gather data from. We don't know what data the government has already that could have informed a plan along these lines. Slowly rising CO2 emissions could be an extension of that same plot. Literally turning up the heat. Just an idea.
