I find a lot of social events revolve around food. I can't imagine hanging out with friends or visiting family without some sort of food involved, and that food is either greazy tasty fried foods, or something covered in cheese. It's hard to deny food someone has worked so hard to make for you, and it is difficult to see everyone else order a burger and fries while trying to stick to a salad. I mean, if someone orders that blooming onion at the steakhouse, it could be several years until you get to experience that again, you gotta take a bite!

Of course you could hit up the gym and exercise, but if you are like me, there just isn't time in the day for it. If you work a desk job from 9-5 like many people do, and then you have to make it home for dinner by 6 and chow down on that hearty meal that is waiting for you, before you know it you're very full, satisfied, and tired. You have a couple hours in the evening to yourself, but that time is spent doing bills, catching up on the news, reading a book - and other relaxing activities. Then it's time to get ready for bed. Wake up the next morning, get some breakfast, go to work, and its back at the desk again.

The stress of work causes you to really want a nice, filling breakfast. If given the option you'll go to McDonalds or make some sausages, eggs, and toast at home. For lunch you'll also make bad choices because you need a pick-me-up to make it through to the next deadline or meeting. The last thing you want to do is feel hungry or hangry because you're waiting for some free time to eat. You know you don't function well when hungry, so you eat that burger and fries, and that big ol' slice of cake because then at least you can feel full and keep your mind off food for a while.

And then, on the weekends, you finally have time to eat healthy, plan your meals, and get some exercise. Saturday morning rolls in, and you're tired, you have all day, you've got nowhere to be, so you sleep in until 9 or 10. Get up, get some coffee, check your email, use the bathroom, plan your day. But its Saturday so you sit in your pajamas longer than you should. You get caught up in a card game online or something and before you know it, it's already the afternoon. Maybe you had to go to the hardware store that day, or maybe you had to mow the lawn from your riding lawn mower, or go on a fishing trip. Either way you're still pretty sedentary and not running around a lot. You're just relaxing, cooking out on the grill, talking to friends, drinking a beer, just enjoying the day of not being at work.

Sunday rolls around and again you sleep in longer than usual. Ah, but today is the day you're going to get out, go hiking, get some exercise, eat healthy, maybe bust out the bike. But your wife surprises you with a home cooked breakfast of hash and eggs or pancakes or something. You can't say no, you love pancakes. She mentions her family is doing something that day, and she wants you to go along. You have to, it's family. So you linger around the house, watch some tv, take a shower, and before you know it, it's almost noon and you're at your family's house having a delicious lunch. You hang out and talk and play games for a few hours, then it is time to head home. It's Sunday afternoon, you're full and tired and just want to take a nap. By the time you wake up, it's getting dark out. Guess that trip to the park didn't happen. But you're not a recluse, your friends call you up to go see a movie. Sure, you'll go. And you can skip dinner at least to make up for that huge breakfast and lunch you had. Of course you have to get the biggest popcorn because it's the best deal...
