For context, Orochimaru killed Tōshirō's mother and maternal grandfather. He only met the Sannin once, that vet morning when the man bumped into them on the way to the village market. It's implied in a previous chapter that both himself, his mother, and Pakkun, who was left to watch over them by Kakashi, saw a shadow lurking around their house at night.

Here's the scene in full "I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that you are so gifted, Tōshirō," The stranger grinned evilly. "Members of Konoha's Hatake clan have always shown talent at a young age—your father and grandfather especially."

Tōshirō gnashed his teeth in a mash of pain and rage. Ignoring the pain in his leg, he set his feet to attack. The stranger laughed.

*"I don't recall anyone of that clan inheriting a kekkei genkai," He sighed to himself, tightening his grip around a struggling Suiren as he looked down in amusement at her. "You must've gotten it from her." *

"Run Tōshirō," She gasped out, her hands struggling against the stranger's arms to breath.

"I would listen to your mother, Tōshirō," The stranger replied back, his voice disturbingly cheerful. "Mother's do know what is best. It looks like the old man's heart has finally given out and I am just about done with your mother here." He paused for a moment, leaning his nose into her disheveled hair, taking in a deep breath. The man's tongue came out to lick at Suiren's jaw. The way the man's eyes closed with a look of euphoria made Tōshirō's skin crawl, but he could only watch helplessly as the stranger used his mother as a human shield.

"Be a good boy and give us some privacy, won't you, Tōshirō?" He said, the smile on his face growing twisted. "I promise when I am done with her, I will give her a merciful death."

"Bastard!" He howled as his hand shakily reached for another kunai, but a sudden pain pierced the back of his neck. Great sparks of pain rocked through his body, forcing out a bloodcurdling scream from his throat, and throwing him into a wave of darkness as he fell limply to the dirt.

As of the next chapter, when Pakkun returns with help, Tōshirō's unconscious.
