[Serious] I don't know how to respond to this without sounding like a snob.

Just brace yourself for potential failure, baby steps just sometimes won't work. Years ago, I tried converting a group of friends that I had known through out our childhood who were big MTG fans. While I don't mind playing MTG from time to time, my original hope was that I could slowly introduce a few other games into our rotation. It started out almost every night we hung out turned into hours long sessions of multiplayer MTG games. I brought a few other games; Resistance, Netrunner, Coup, etc. Things in the same vein and shorter one off games, none of which were touched. For weeks I continued to hang out with these people only to be shrugged off, after about a month of time with them I decided to stop showing up. Ultimately I think the experience of attempting to "save" them the just hurt our friendship we had built up over years. I grew very sour towards them and in reality I had no reason to be upset with them. Boardgames first and foremost are just about having fun and it wasn't my place to tell they we're doing it the right way. Realistically I wish I would have just detached myself from the situation earlier, since then I've found some of my best friends who are actually open to exploring the wide world of board games.
