[Serious] Reddit, have you ever had to end a relationship with someone even though you still loved them? What happened?

This actually just happened to me yesterday. I'm a 20/f and he's a 21/m and we were just in 2 different places with our paths in life. He is a musician that's gaining a lot of traction very quickly. He initiated the break because he felt bad he wasn't treating me well as far as spending time with me and being conscious and attentive to my feelings. He also has a lot of personal/family situations going on right now and stress about his career taking off that he needs to process on his own and I was continuously upset that he felt like he couldn't talk to me about those issues. I want a husband and a good job and kids and he wants to your and play music. I'm still shattered and a wreck that this all happened because he genuinely is the best friend I have ever had in my entire life and making that transition is just excruciatingly painful. But I know deep down I'll be better off for it, it's just horrible right now. I wish him all the best and we're still going to remain friends as best we can.
