Seriously, out of all the mental illnesses to become "hip," BPD is an awful one. I get that it comes off as edgy and dark or whatever, but that's not my experience with my (professionally diagnosed) BPD friend at all.

She's actually super charismatic, easily made friends with anyone, and was very empathetic and kind; she just can't maintain a healthy relationship with anyone if it killed her.

The constant suicidality is probably the worst part of the disorder for her. She attempts suicide around once a year, usually completely impulsively, and she's put me in some really scary situations because of it. She'll get back on the right track with her meds afterwards but seemingly every time she'll stop taking them, fall back into substance abuse, and the cycle starts all over again.
