Should I buy the hardcover DM Guide?

I'm not sure I know what materials you are referencing. Do you know what each of the 3 core rules books entails??

Players Handbook(PHB): Everybody(Players and DMs) need this. Contains all the play rules and character creation options. The DM will need to know it generally better than the players. Here is the PHB Table of Contents: http://imgur.com/MDr2Abw

Dungeon Master's Guide(DMG): The Dungeon Master needs this, especially if he/she is brand new. This contains advice for running games, optional rules and tools to build your own worlds/adventures. Players may want to read it for extra info but its not mandatory for them. Here is the DMG Table of Contents: http://imgur.com/JBKd8gs

Monsters Manual(MM): The Dungeon Master needs this. Contains about 300 monsters, their stat blocks and info on how to use them. Players might read it for fun but they don't need it(and some people feel its cheating for the players to read it or reference it while the game is in session). Sword Coast Adventurers Guide(SCAG): Optional Supplemental book for Players and DMs. It contains background information on the Sword Coast Region of the Forgotten Realms setting where the current officially released campaigns are taking place which might be useful or of interest to new or returning players to the game. It also has additional character creation options. Here is the SCAG Table of Contents: http://imgur.com/lSamzjx
