Why should I take my cat off grain-free food if it's the only thing that helped stop her bloody diarrhea?

You know, my first thought was: high pea diets have been associated with heart disease in dogs. I’m not as well read on the association with cats, but I do know it exists. I’m very much against feeding grain-free diets, as most pets are not allergic to grain. The most common food allergy in cats and dogs both is chicken.

That being said, this is a risk-benefit analysis. Is your cat going to die if it’s GI disease before it dies of diet-associated cardiomyopathy? Probably not. Is the quality of life of your cat and yourself better if the GI disease is managed? Absolutely. I would suggest exploring other options, but that’s something you either need to work out with your current vet or see an internal medicine specialist. I’m not allowed to provide a diagnosis, but there is a chronic enteropathy cats are notorious for getting, and there are certain medications and other foods that may be worth trying. If your current vet is comfortable with the diet you have your cat on the that’s between the two of you.
