Side gig in the field ideas

Online tutoring.

Quick note, when I say tutoring, I don’t mean tutoring local students falling behind in their bio courses, or anything like that. I mean tutoring the children of rich families who want to give their child an edge. There’s no shortage of ridiculously intense parents who want their child to become a physician, dentist, ect. Many of these parents also think that their child can get a leg-up on everyone else if they start studying the relevant sciences early, and are willing to pay a premium for it. Don’t worry about the online factor either. Many of these kids have cramped schedules, so the flexibility of virtual tutoring is actually a plus to them. That, and middle to upper-middle class families who want a tutor but can’t afford an in-person one will view you as a cheaper but satisfactory alternative.

Don’t worry about lesson plans. Just like how we have field specific societies and organizations, teachers do too. Many of those organizations have repositories of teaching plans, lesson objectives, and course materials which you can access for free. Combined with your existing knowledge, teaching basic stuff to grade/middle schoolers should be doable.

You mentioned that you didn’t go to school in the states. Honestly, I don’t think it’s really a problem. If you’re really concerned, you can tutor oversea students. It’s weird, but many foreigners like to look for tutors who can teach in English. You could also tutor students from whichever country you went to school in.

You can also try tutoring college students, but it’s typically more involved and you tend to make less.
