I’ve signed to a few labels and i’ve released by myself. Honestly it’s just a matter of your patience and where you at in your career.

Early on you want to constantly be putting out music, like once a month or every other month. This is hard if you don’t have a huge catalog of music that you’ve sent out to labels prior. Labels tend to take a few months to release your track where as self releasing can be done in about a week.

Also with regards to money, yeah i mean… if the labels want the $5 my song is going to make in the next year by all means, have it! They generally drop a few hundred dollars on marketing to promote the song so I don’t really mind them taking a percentage.
