A Sikh student at the University of North Carolina was forcefully detained by police for wearing his Kirpan (article of faith).

In all honesty, I don’t see why telling someone that they can’t have a weapon on them in school is a bad thing. Personally I think religion in general promotes violence and intolerance and any form of mitigation of that is a good thing to me. Soon you’ll have white Christian nationalists factions spouting evangelical bullshit about how “God” commands them to carry handguns and rifles around as religious symbols; it’s really only a matter of time before one of them gets the idea. Who’s going to say they can’t? The law? Definitely not in the USA because of the 1st amendment. And even if they say, “well schools are private institutions and therefore they can make their own mandates,” they’re not just going to roll over because they are emboldened by a supernatural sky creature.
