Someone broke into my car while I was at work

It doesn't matter what you do, parking lots aren't safe.

I used to work at a grocery store that shared a parking lot with a bunch of stores, so it was fairly large and also packed. My car about two days before this incident had been attempted to be broken into, and in the attempt the thief broke off my passenger door handle.

On this day, I left work at 11:30 am on a Sunday in a fully packed, busy parking lot. I got in my car, turned on the car, then got on my phone to catch up on some texts before I drove home. Out of nowhere, there's this skinny tall guy, trying to get in using the broken handle! I was in shock, but backed up and drove off, leaving him standing there. I called my store on the way back to let them know what happened, but didn't hear anything. I always lock my car door first thing when I get in it now.

I think the notion of leaving a bag there unprotected, on a work shift, where people may recognize your car/be able to identify it as an employee's car is ridiculous and unjustified and I would definitely use this breaking in incident against the owner and let him know this happened due to his policy. Any time off needed for replacement IDs or anything should be on provided time off, in my opinion.
