Why The Sopranos, and why now?

It's a grim show, a slow burn that ends with a fizzle. Aside from James Gandolfini's excellent acting, the remaining cast are given so little to work with that most remain fixed as caricatures of mob-guy stereotypes, with the characters eventually becoming so unlikeable in the later seasons that by the end, the only person I was rooting for was Adriana.

A show I wouldn't re-watch - it had nothing to say. The reason people liked Sopranos was that, like Oz (a great show), it had that edgy dramatic feel that eventually led to Mad Men and true character dramas. Where as in those shows the characters change, in The Sopranos, everyone starts and ends the same.
