I am not someone who does either activity, but I do feel the need to point out that, just like being “racist” against white people isn’t actually equivalent to racism against minorities due to the fact that our society is structurally designed to oppress non-white people, being “ageist” against younger people is not the same as being ageist against older people, as the former does not prop up a societally-accepted discriminatory mindset. Age is a protected class in the US because study after study showed that people DO discriminate against older people while prioritizing younger ones.

Just felt the need to point out that people on a subreddit making negative comments is not in any way equal to proven structural oppression. And I say this as someone who is 27 and very much in the “young” category.
