Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope

A long, long time ago, a galaxy far, far away was dominated by an oppressive regime called the Galactic Empire. A small band of resistance fighters called the Rebellion were all that stood against them.

An Imperial force lead by Darth Vader, a powerful Sith Lord, captures one of the rebel leaders, Princess Leia Organa. She manages to smuggle essential plans and a message to an old ally of her father's, named Obi-Wan Kenobi out in the memory unit of a small droid named R2-D2 along with his companion, a translator droid named C-3PO.

The droids land on Tatooine and are eventually discovered by Luke Skywalker, a farmer and pilot living with his aunt and uncle after the death of his father. Skywalker recognises the name Kenobi and shows R2 to his old friend Ben Kenobi, who reveals that he is Obi-Wan. He shows the message to Obi-Wan, where Leia begs Obi-Wan to take R2-D2 to her home planet of Alderaan.

Obi-Wan explains to Luke that Luke's father was, like Obi-Wan, a powerful Jedi - a warrior and protector, gifted in the use of the Force, an energy field that binds all living things together. Obi-Wan gives Luke his father's lightsaber, the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Obi-Wan trained Luke's father but Obi-Wan tells him that he was killed by Darth Vader.

They meet a pair of smugglers, named Han Solo and Chewbacca, who have their own ship, the Millennium Falcon. Solo is in heavy debt to a crime lord named Jabba the Hutt and needs the money the rebels will pay him so he agrees to take Obi-Wan, Luke and the droids to Alderaan.

In the meantime, Leia is taken to the Death Star - an enormous, moon-sized space station with a new weapon capable of destroying entire planets. The plans she gave to R2-D2 are for this station. She is tortured but refuses to betray the location of the rebel's base.

As a result, the Death Star's commander, Grand Moff Tarkin, uses the Death Star against Alderaan, as a public demonstration of what happens to planets that do not fall in line.

The Falcon arrives at Alderaan's former position, and is quickly caught by the Death Star. They manage to hide in smuggling compartments aboard the ship and are not discovered. They discover that Leia is being held there and attempt to rescue her. Luke and Han break Leia out of her cell while Obi-Wan disables the tractor beam that prevents them from escaping.

They are able to escape, but Obi-Wan is killed by Vader. Obi-Wan's body mysteriously vanishes, leaving only his clothes behind. The Falcon's escape, however, proves to be a trick. The Death Star follows them, using a homing beacon planted aboard the Falcon before they allowed Luke and co to leave.

The Falcon arrives at the Rebel base on Yavin and the information contained with R2-D2's memory banks is enough to come up with a plan to destroy the Death Star. Han and Chewbacca prepare to leave with their reward money so they can pay off Jabba.

Luke joins a squadron of X-Wing fighter pilots in an attack on the Death Star, planning to fire a proton torpedo down an exhaust shaft that leads to the station's main reactor. The battle does not go well, many rebel pilots are killed, especially when Vader himself joins the battle.

As one of the few remaining pilots, Luke makes an attack run and is nearly destroyed by Vader when Han and Chewbacca reappear, damaging Vader's fighter and allowing Luke, guided by the Force, to successfully detonate the torpedo, destroying the Death Star.
