Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
In the months since the destruction of the Death Star, the Empire has stepped up its pursuit of the rebels and their new, skilled young pilot.
The rebels flee to a new base on an ice planet named Hoth but Imperial Probe Droids spread throughout the galaxy quickly track them down. An enormous Imperial force arrives at Hoth. Although the clumsiness of the Admiral in command of the fleet gives the rebels enough warning to prepare to evacuate, the Imperial ground attack is overwhelming and the rebels are forced to flee once again.
Cut off from the rebel transport ships, Han, Chewbacca, Leia and C-3PO are forced to escape in a damaged and malfunctioning Millennium Falcon. Luke, having received instruction from Obi-Wan, now a Force Ghost to seek out a Jedi Master named Yoda and R2-D2 leave for the planet Dagobah.
The Falcon is chased in to an asteroid field and is forced to hide while repairs are made to the ship's hyperdrive generator.
While his men search the asteroid field for the Falcon, Vader speaks to the Emperor, his master and another Sith Lord. They agree that the rebel pilot who destroyed the Death Star could only have been the offspring of Anakin Skywalker and that if he could be turned to their side he would be a powerful ally.
On Dagobah, Luke meets Yoda, a small, green alien who Luke underestimates. Luke's X-Wing sinks in to the swamp but Yoda is able to pull it out using the Force. Yoda teaches Luke about the Force, and Luke proves to be a very adept student, but when he learns that his friends are in danger he ignores Yoda's advice that he is not ready to face Darth Vader and rushes off to find them. Obi-Wan says Luke is their last hope, but Yoda says there is another.
Meanwhile, the Falcon is forced to leave the asteroid field. They narrowly escape and head for Cloud City, a mining city owned by Han's old friend Lando Calrissian. Unfortunately, Lando is forced to betray them as the Bounty Hunter Boba Fett had tracked them there. Vader had arrived just before the Falcon did and they are captured, to be used as bait to lure Luke in to a trap.
Han is frozen and given to Fett so he can claim the bounty on him set by Jabba. Lando realises that the Empire will never honour their agreement to leave and helps Leia and Chewbacca to escape. When Luke arrives, he is carefully directed in to a confrontation with Darth Vader.
Luke proves to be skilled in the Force and with a lightsaber, but he is no match for Vader. Vader drives him towards a small platform above a deep chasm in the floating city and cuts off his hand. With Luke barely hanging on, Vader tries to convince Luke to join him as his apprentice so they together can kill the Emperor and take his place. Luke refuses as Vader killed his father, but Vader tells him the truth - Vader is Luke's father. Refusing to believe it, Luke sacrifices himself, letting go and allowing himself to fall.
He survives, however, as Leia is able to sense that Luke is still alive and brings the Falcon to rescue him. Luke and Vader communicate via the Force, with Luke realising that Vader was telling the truth, angry that Obi-Wan had lied to him.
The Falcon meets the rest of the rebel fleet. Luke's hand is replaced with a mechanical one and they draw up plans to meet on Tatooine to rescue Han.
