I agree: it's important to report rapists to the police. It's important to help people who have been hurt and to stop bad things from happening again (rapists have a very high reoffending rate).

But there are mountains of literature on why people don't report, the bad things that often happen to the people who do report, and the utter indifference with which the system generally treats rape victims of either sex (google "rape kit backlog," for instance). At no point in internet history will "but why not call the police?" ever be a helpful comment on a post like this.
