I am a manager and will be switching careers soon. The restaurant industry destroys your body and turns you into a cynical husk of a human being. Chronic back pain, depression, alcoholism, drug abuse, high blood pressure, diabetes and more await you if you decide that $20-$25 is enticing.

People seem to think my servers stand there waiting to grab you a side of ranch the moment you consider wanting one. Like they are lazy sacks of shit that delay severing you because they just don't feel like moving fast enough.

People talk to servers like they are reenacting the plantation days. Speaking of which, I have seen server asses and crotches grabbed, threats of violence, smacks on the hands and shoving and even saw a black server called a nigger as she left her table. None of these situations were met with any repercussions because corporate restaurants do not care about the employees.. not even the tiniest bit. They know they can replace anyone the next day and do so all the time.

Now that I thought taking a management position at a small place over servering at a chain would make things better and it has, but you still deal with greedy owners and a unrealistically demanding public every moment you work. Every person that works under me deserves every dollar they make and anyone that comments about employers paying minimum wage as if that's somehow makes not tipping okay is excusing their shitty behavior and that's it. You know better.
