the scämmy thing is that they told the players that you need the basegame for playing it and made nice deals so everyone who wanted to start in HoTs would buy it. Then after they sold many digital copies they changed the live FAQ so it tells now that you do not need the base game anymore. A view people looked in the histories and found the old entries and posted them here. THEN anet changed the history so it was fixed there too and nobody should know that it ever said anything else.
But the problem for anet is that you can found the old entries in the web archieves!

I just want people to know the truth. It's 100% neutral, it's just the truth. Lucky that there is a webärchive, otherwise they would say it never happened. Downvoting or deleting is not helping here. It just slows down the inevitable. Or in this case it will speed things up because i will post it multiple times. :-)
