Theological Thanksgiving Thursday

I know secular organizations exist that can form extended family communities. But it seems like those kinds of communities are more often a part of a church, at least in my experience. Which makes me think that there is something about the idea of God that draws people toward wanting to offer support and comfort to others in their time of need. It's not an idea I have worked through in any critical-thinking type way. You also see some of the greatest leaders for social movements, like MLK, coming from inside the church. I think there is something about believing there is something greater than the individual and something more than what is here on earth that gives people the strength to confront injustices. But, it's not an idea that I feel the need to examine critically. I feel God when I am in church. I'm also a researcher by profession. I believe that both the feeling is real, and the logic of research is real. And I don't have a need to work through the contradictions that those two views might create. I think as humans we know some things through feelings, art, creativity, faith, and we know some things through logic and science. I can see why others would be troubled by the contradictions that might create for understanding the world, but the contradictions don't trouble me.
