TIL the city of Toronto has more than 30 kilometers of tunnels and walkways connecting nearly every office in the downtown area. This includes the largest underground shopping complex in the world.

Montreal is another city with a very large expanse of underground interconnecting tunnels, leading from one business skyscraper to another.

I've walked both the Toronto tunnels and the Montreal tunnels, and personally I've much preferred the Montreal tunnels (which even include an underground ice-skating rink, many unique different shopping malls, connections to the subway stations, lots of various food courts, etc...)

HOWEVER... recently the BIG PROBLEM with the underground tunnels in Montreal, is that some of the business complexes foolishly decided, after all these years, to close their section of the tunnel system after approximately 9:00 pm.

Previously the entire underground tunnel network in Montreal was open and available 24 hours a day.

But ya, those couple of businesses decided to TOTALLY RUIN things by closing their portion of the tunnel complex at 9:00 pm... which ruins the entire interconnected chain, especially for people who are downtown later into the night and want to use the tunnel system.

If these businesses are closing them at 9:00 pm because they were worried about "security"...

Then all they have to do is hire a couple of night time guards to watch over their section of the tunnel system: which would be a very tiny cost, when you consider the overall cost of running a skyscraper building complex!
