Tips on getting through quitting?

Hey, this is the first time I have ever posted on this forum, despite checking in daily. Your story inspired me to write something.... Anything. Just to make sure you were heard and you knew people have heard you.

This is a hard one, because you have build up your dependence on smoking very very quickly. Honestly, it's not smoking that you are dependent on, it's the feelings of escape and being able to be distracted from what's really going on. You need help, somebody to talk to and work through what's bothering you.

I went through some stuff when I was 16, and it really did consume me. I couldn't cope without a smoke. Now I am 2 months into my smoke free nicotine free life.

For me, I have been smoking allot longer, so I was dependent on the nicotine and not just the belief that I was escaping my problems. But I did find that confronting the things that were challenging me, and discussing my issues with somebody external and non judgemental helped

I asked my GP for help, and they referred me to a charity called IAPT, who gave me a comfortable place to talk through something called CBT theraphy. However, the NSPCC also have a help line. I know everybody thinks that it's just a charity for abused kids. But it's really not, you don't have to be a "victim" to call them. They are their 24 hours if you need a chat... About anything. It's called childline.

If those don't suit you, perhaps there are youth workers or mentors at your school or in your local area, or even just speaking to an adult outside your family that you can trust. Although it's nice to vent to your friends, I found that adults can often help just that little bit more, they seem to be better connected. There is also a a website that can be very helpful. It's called youthminds I think. Google it. Definitely worth checking out.

You have done well though for making it 4 hours.... Now 5! Just take it as it comes. The first 3 days are hard. And I found the 4th day the hardest. But each day after that gets a little easier. There's an app that I used to get through these past two months. It's brilliant. Especially if you're competitive. Because you become determined to achieve the badges complete the missions. It's called smoke free and the logo is a green tick.

Good luck!
