Too many cows and waste, Mumbai, India

So, I'm from India. And I'd like to add to this discussion.

While India does an animal control service, it is non-functional in capacity, it is just to be taken at face value. The sheer amount of strays you can find here is sad. The more saddening thing is the fact that out of these stray cattle, some aren't even actually "stray", they have been let out by their owners, so they can consume whatever litter they can find, and are rounded up by night to be milked the next day, then again let out, the cycle continues. This way owners can save money by not feeding the cattle they have. The bulls are just left out on the street to fend for themselves at an early age because they hold no value in terms of dairy etc.

The only worth these poor souls have are as words spat out by politicians to curry favour amongst the public. The incumbent party running the government has been in power, for what, around 10 years at this point? I haven't seen the situation change even slightly for the better.

While these politicians scream their lungs out for animal cruelty during their rallies, a lot of the times they themselves own/ are connected to people that own slaughterhouses, even for beef. Now I'm not one to project my personal beliefs about what we should eat and not, but the double standards at play here are sickening.

It's the same for dogs and monkeys. It is really becoming a serious problem where you're bound to find at least one stray at every corner, if not more. And it's worse when comes it animals like dogs and monkeys, since they can be a public safety hazards and source of various infections like rabies etc.

It is a truly sad state of affairs when it comes to public hygiene and topics like strays. But then again one can only hope to solve these issues when more pressing stuff like widespread poverty, increasing gap between the rich and the poor, Rapidly rising expenses, communal divides is dealt with.
