[TotalBiscuit] I will now talk about No Man's Sky hype for about 40 minutes

The game is NOT a triple A title, but it is priced there.

If Hello Games never partnered with Sony and this game was released as an indie title priced at $40, we would be sitting here hailing it as an incredible achievement and heaping praise upon praise on the developers.

Such is the affect of expectations on the outcome.

I mean seriously the game delivers everything we've seen in the promos. It just doesn't deliver it immediately, in any scripted fashion. You get it after you've built up Warp Drive upgrades and acquired the ability to visit blue and green star systems that have higher odds of generating crazier planets. It takes work. It takes exploration. And the game itself just has no real story or direction. It's just this loose connection of lore text you have to coax out with effort. But ultimately, if you've done all of that, and you've explored all of that, then you've seen everything they've shown us in the promos. They haven't lied. It's just a very unusual non-linear unscripted game that the average gamer is having trouble consuming effectively.

This is going to go down in gaming history, I think, as one of the greatest marketing blunders right up there with the WiiU. But I have hope that, just like the WiiU, it will blossom into a success over its lifespan as Hello Games releases patches and DLCs that take the feedback from the players and improve the game into a scope that is more in line with the mismanaged marketing hype.
