Totally Electric UK

OK - is just so happens two posts I have made have generated a wee bit heat.

I am not doing it to be an arse - I actually thought that they were a couple of decent viewpoints.

I guess I could have made them a little less argumentative but then they would be unlikely to get any responses.

The people in these subreddits are pretty well read, some experts in their field. I am learning a lot from the responses which is what I set out to do.

I could commission specialist consultancies to do the research for me but this is free and unbiased.

This post, about the folly of electric cars, was made because of one simple reason.

Governments are setting policies stopping sales of petrol and diesel cars based on the HOPE that the range, charging and generation issues will go away.

It’s a risky call and because it is a green solution - the majority of the public seem to just accept it. And it seems those more learned are willing to say .. it should get better...SHOULD?

What if it doesn’t ?

These are the FACTS:

  1. Current battery technology is not good enough for a mass rollout of EVs
  2. There are no plans in place for new nuclear power stations to satisfy the increased demand (the don’t go up overnight and cost tens of billions)

I am sure there are other gotchas waiting around the corner - for example, can the cables already installed around the country (and some of it is really old) handle charging of potentially thousands of EVs.?

Musk et al are getting billions of public money and fecking it about on schoolboy ideas.

Surely, they should be forced to use the funding to first address the battery issue - cos right now, they have sold you and I a pup.

But no - they’re spending it on space rockets and pimped up monorails.

Maybe governments should be coming together and directly funding the development of solid state batteries and hydrogen generation instead of giving tax breaks and grants to private companies.

We are currently hoping Toyota crack solid state or Musk’s secret battery work comes to fruition.

This is future of our children and we are putting it in the hands of businessmen - who’s primary function is to make money!
