Tesla argues California's EV mandate should be stricter

I'm a libertarian, and I used to refuse government benefits on principle. When I broke and homeless, I was eligible for all kinds of welfare programs, but I never applied. Never took one single dime.

But once I reached the other end of the financial spectrum, and was paying tons of taxes, I had a very clear change of heart. Now I figure that if the government is going to piss away my tax dollars on things I don't support, then I'm better off getting whatever piece of the pie I'm eligible for so that I can redirect the money to things I do support. I consider it a rebate on a tiny portion of the taxes I pay.

The PPP loan was a perfect example of that. I didn't support it's passage, and I declared early on that the program would run rampant with fraud, which it did. But, since it was there, and I was eligible, I took it. It was a small fraction of the income taxes I paid in 2020, but it was a nice little rebate that I was then able to put back into the economy elsewhere.
