Toyota Exec Says Lack Of Consumer Demand Makes U.S. Goal Of 50% Electric Vehicles By 2030 A Long Shot

I'm surprised to hear that the kwh rate is so high where you're at.

I haven't found a charging station near me that actually charges money. I have a PHEV though.

Charging it at home costs 90¢ for a 'full' charge and I can go 42 miles.

I save $42 every 300 miles, assuming I'm paying for each 'fill up' vs my old car. I've got 2400 miles on my PHEV now, so divide that by 300 and multiply by 42 and I've saved $336 in fuel costs over one and a half months of ownership. We'll call it ~ $200 a month.

So yeah, it would take 10 years.

Fortunately, my workplace has free charging, which brings the savings up a lot. I only pay for the trip to work, and even then it doesn't use the entire charge.
