That’s a logical flaw called the Fallacy of Composition.

The fact there’s self professed socialists in the NDP, and even a Socialist Caucus with formal organization doesn’t make the NDP Socialist. You’d have to have enough membership that they took over the party, drove the planks at conventions, and legitimately turned the party into a Socialist party for that fallacy to stop being a fallacy.

With regards to supporters of the NDP, you can’t claim that they are Socialists, either, simply because they support the NDP and there happens to be these Socialist elements or members within it.
