U.S. World Cup qualifiers: Weston McKennie backs Bruce Arena's decision not to call him in

And he's a really fucking good striker, as evidenced by his challenge to Donovan's MLS goal scoring record.

This just means he's a good MLS striker but not in the context of international football let alone global club football. He's not a good striker at the international level. Being good in MLS doesn't make you good outside of it nor does it mean it will translate to international football and god knows it hasn't for Wondo.

great locker room guy, really coachable, both a coach's player and a player's player.

Cliches that you could apply to many players in the roster or any roster in past WC squads. Seriously it sounds like I;m reading brain dead cliches from broadcasters when describing a white athlete in the NFL. "Deceptive speed, blue collar player, first in and last out of the gym, a great locker room guy, really coachable, both a coach's player and a player's player". Literally attributes that mean nothing at a decent level since they're quite common across every squad.
