USPS issues stamp of disapproval on needles in Lowell mailbox

I'm in the "industry." By that i mean dealing with sharps, OD's addicts, and the shit that goes along with that is my day to day.

The people leaving needles out in public are assholes. Have a needle? Simply throw it in any public trash container or any public or private dumpster. Any city or town (where homeless roam) is covered with such containers.

Throwing a used syringe into the bushes 30 feet from a visible dumpster is a blatant attack on the community.

As for your idea it's well intentioned. But it wont work. 1st reason is the USPS would never allow a sharps container attached to their rare blue mail boxes. second, there is no department in health in most communities who has the resources to install, maintain and keep track of public sharp boxes located throughout the city.

In most cases, the local police, fire stations and hospital are legit sharps drop off sites. They are almost never used for such purposes although it does happen on occasion.

Most of the people who are injecting heroin into the veins are more focused on the high and the next high. They arent interested much in safe sharps disposal. Some of them are, but the ones leaving them in the street could not care less that you step on one and stick yourself.
