USPS warns it might have to shutter by June as $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus package provides no funding

This is not the whole story, or even very accurate. Just because there’s a fear of something happening, doesn’t mean it will. The USPS has always been, and always will be, operating at a loss.

I know a bit more about this (I posted this on another thread about the same news topic) and no, I’m not going to tell you how. You can take it or leave it.

The US government, on all levels, has no intention of letting this happen. We can’t.

I find it incredibly concerning that so many have such little faith right now that they believe we wil run out of funding for one of the most vital pieces of our infrastructure.

If we did:

-People who don’t use direct deposit for their tax refunds, would never get that check. Or any federal check. Or any state checks for that matter. This means: Disability, social security, unemployment...you get the point.

-We would not be able to vote. Yes, there are concerns that this could go that way, but not because of this root cause.

-No one would be able to get things like identification documents, license plates, or registration for their cars.

-There would be mass hysteria, in particular because of this virus. Then would come looting, violence, rioting...you guys really think we want that? To spread the virus further through civil unrest?

Here is the reality that this article (and the others I’ve seen) missed:

The USPS is already broken down. People are already not showing up to work enough to keep many offices open.

I’m sure you, or someone you know, is waiting for mail that hasn’t come.

This isn’t the fault of funding, it’s because people are all afraid of catching this virus, have already caught it, or are caring for someone who has it.

It’s not going to close because of lack of funding, it’s going to close because of lack of people.

...which is so much worse.
