The disses guys are making in songs right now cross boundaries that Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Nas, Jay-Z, etc. never dared to cross in the 90s. 90s rappers used to make pretty meaningless insults about sucking dick/being broke/f*cking b*tches, now it's laughing at mothers who grieve their dead children for murders that have already been committed. In fact, the first time any rapper ever explicitly taunted a rival's dead associate by name was in 2012 (not the 90s or 00s), when Gucci Mane said to Jeezy:

Go dig your partner up n*gga, bet he can't say shit

And even that diss compared to the current state is mild at best. If the dark castle in the meme is the kind of musical environment you're looking for, then logically you'd appreciate the current rap scene more now than ever before because it's just incomparably darker and almost psychopathic.
