“Good for the environment” is where OPs images falls apart. Deer hunting is terrible for environment.

All the driving, hobby parts, lead in trees, accidental murders,… Having a group of 5 people in LA drive for a couple hours shot a couple deer drive back to LA isn’t going to be net positive for the “environment”.

When you have a real over population problem with deer the best thing to do for the environment would be to hire somebody to efficiently kill the deer in greater numbers.

Most hobbies are inefficient/bad for the environment and we shouldn’t necessarily ban them. But it’s silly to say Billy’s hunting trip is “good for the environment”. That’s just nonsense.
