What are you doing to make Christmas less of a financial burden?

Normalize light gifting. Lots of gifts go unused or aren't really what a person wants. In my family if you get someone some chocolates and maybe something useful like socks or an ice scraper, you're doing well. If you have significantly higher means than the person you might want to spoil a bit, then go for it. If someone with less means than me goes out of their way to get me something that's putting them in debt or holding them back, I'd way rather see them get me nothing and keep on track. The most important thing is to share time, so not consumerism, so if you really want and are able to, splurge on something you can do together like a hockey game or skiing.
